FINANCIAL HEALTH
Part 4:
Laws of Financial Health
3. Law of exception
We have so far talked about the law
of commitment (tithing): the key, and the law of love (giving): the receiving tool.
Before we talk the next law, the law of exception, I would like us to read a
short story. Read to listen. Here we go!!!
4 In addition, king Hezekiah told the
people of Jerusalem to bring the offerings to which the priests and the Levites
were entitled, so that they could give all their time to the requirements of
the Law of the Lord (GNT). 5 As soon as the king’s order spread, the
Israelites gave in abundance the first fruits of grain, new wine,
[olive] oil, honey, and of all the produce of the field; and they brought in the
tithe of everything abundantly (Amplified Version 2015). 6 The
people who had moved to Judah from Israel, and the people of Judah themselves,
brought in the tithes of their cattle, sheep, and goats and a tithe
of the things that had been dedicated to the LORD their God, and they piled
them up in great heaps. 7 They began piling them up in late spring, and
the heaps continued to grow until early autumn. 8 When Hezekiah and his
officials came and saw these huge piles, they thanked the LORD and his people
Israel! 9 "Where did all this come from?" Hezekiah asked the
priests and Levites. 10 And Azariah the high priest, from the family of
Zadok, replied, "Since the people began bringing their gifts (offerings,
contributions) to the LORD's Temple, we have had enough to eat and plenty to
spare. The LORD has blessed his people, and all this is left over." 11
Hezekiah ordered that storerooms be prepared in the Temple of the LORD. When
this was done, 12 the people faithfully brought all the tithes
and gifts to the Temple. Conaniah the Levite was put in charge, assisted by
his brother Shimei. 13 The supervisors under them were Jehiel, Azaziah,
Nahath, Asahel, Jerimoth, Jozabad, Eliel, Ismakiah, Mahath, and Benaiah. These
appointments were made by King Hezekiah and Azariah, the chief official in the
Temple of God. 14 Kore son of Imnah the Levite, who was the gatekeeper
at the East Gate, was put in charge of distributing the voluntary offerings
given to God, the gifts, and the things that had been dedicated to the
LORD.
2 chronicles 31:4-14
I have shared with you this story so
that you should judge what am sharing with you. If you have indeed read to
listen, you must have picked the laws of commitment and love in this story. You
must as well have picked the results of practising these laws. In this story we
can see people tithing (opening the doors of abundance) using even their
livestock (it is not just about money). We see them putting to work the tool of
receiving through voluntarily, cheerfully giving abundantly (first fruits, gifts).
And guess what happened, abundantly they received. They had enough to eat and
plenty to spare. One important thing, they faithfully brought all the tithes
and gifts. These laws exist and they work.
Tithe, give abundantly, go to work,
go to your business and you shall see the finances abundantly manifesting. There
are different ways how these finances manifest but the bottom line is that they
rain down actually. Now, when you have all these finances showering, there is
one thing that happens: your capacity of doing things increases. You can buy
what you couldn’t and you can go to places you couldn’t. The trick is that the
finances might start seeming insufficient. Money is never enough; the huge the
money, the huge the dream you want to pursue. If not careful, this might just
another trap of unhealthy finances. This is where the law of exception comes
in.
And Azariah the high priest, from
the family of Zadok, replied, "Since the people began bringing their gifts
(offerings, contributions) to the LORD's Temple, we have had enough to eat and
plenty to spare.
2 chronicles 31:10
When you start tithing and giving,
trust me you will have more than enough. The only problem is when you are
unappreciative, you will never see enough in what you have. Whatever comes from
God is enough for you, learn to see enough in everything. Else, this law will
be hard to do. So, am saying you are going to be financially healthy if you
receive, see enough in what you have received and spare some of what you have
received. The law of exception is your ability to save, to spare, to put aside
some of what you have for future use. Many of us have a problem of saving money,
we tend to use all our money. And that’s because we think what we have is not
enough. Money will never be enough, until you say it is enough. Develop a habit
of faithfully saying you will use all your money except a certain amount of
money. At war, the Commander doesn’t send the whole army to the battle field.
There is always a first line troop, the second through to the last backup
defence. Same way, the flow of money should have some backup.
Jesus took the bread, gave thanks to
God, and distributed it to the people who were sitting there. He did the same
with the fish, and they all had as much as they wanted. 12 When they
were all full, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces left over; let us
not waste a bit.”
John 6:11-12 (GNT)
God provided plenty but He still gathered what was left, what was spared. The people for some reason did not finish everything, they left something which was then gathered and put together. God does not waste His provision.
Some people spend money without knowing that
they are wasting money. And there are some people who save money without
knowing that they are wasting money. If you spend everything, financial healthy
cannot be your friend. If you keep money in the bank, mobile money or in your
house without getting an interest, you are wasting money. The value of money
today is not the same value that will be tomorrow. In a country where
depreciation is at work: keeping today’s money idle to be used tomorrow is not saving
at all, it is wasting. For example, 1 million kwacha today will not be the same
as 1 million kwacha in 5 years.
Financial health is a friend to
those who can save, spare money for future use. Neither should you use
everything and nor keep the money idle, that’s not how we save. The next law
shall show us how to save. And one last emphasis, you always have enough, learn
to see it. Only when you see enough in what you have, the law of serving shall
be an easy habit.
